Benefit the POREfessional Review + Pictures

The POREfessional (travel size)

Cannot be denied the presence of primer plays an important role in creating a perfect base before applying foundation, keeping make up fresh and stay put, and helping even out skin imperfections. Today, the product that i am going to review claims that it can minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for smoother skin. I bet all of you know what i am talking about - yes – who does not know Benefit the POREfessional. Let’s prove what the product claims about itself.

The POREfessional comes in a plastic squeeze tube with a small nozzle. I like the packaging because i can control the amount of product that i want to distribute. A small amount of product is enough to prime my whole face.

The texture is lightweight brownish balm with a floral scent. My sister said it looks like peanut butter but paler – it does look alike – does not it?  hahahaha. I cannot keep my hands off of my face once it is applied, it leaves my skin super silky, soft and matte finish. Although, the texture is matte, it does not look powdery like Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer. It is transparent and will vanish when it is blended into the skin, makes it suitable for all skin tones. The silky texture of the POREfessional helps foundation blend easier.

This primer fills the pores, wrinkles and fine lines makes them slightly difference in their appearance but it does not make them completely disappear. It contains oil free formula but it does not have oil control. It means that it does not reduce the production of oil on your face. If you have been following my blog, you know that I have oily skin. I found that my T-zone and cheeks still get shiny after a few hours wearing it, so I do as recommended which is patching the product lightly on the top of my make up on the problem areas. This primer does a fantastic job, it resmooths the skin without smears the make up.

Overall, I do love working with the POREfessional. Besides to mattify skin, it also helps to minimize textural issues, which pores, wrinkles, or fine lines can sometimes contribute to, and it helps make up application become more easy and quick.

MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage Review & Pictures

Product Description
“An ultra-fluid lotion formulated with special-effect silicones. Calms and soothes the skin, blots away excess oil, and evens out skin redness. Improves the laydown and application of foundation or powder.”

Ingredients
You can see the ingredients on the picture.

Packaging
It is 30 ml black plastic bottle with a pump dispenser covered with a lot of tiny sparkles. The packaging is quite nice yet irritating. It is travel friendly and you do not have to worry if you accidentally drop it but in the other side, you cannot tell how much the product is left. It would facilitate user if the packaging comes in transparent bottle or tube. Well, in this case if you want to see the product that left inside, you can pry the bottom cap with bobbi pin. I will show you the picture how I did it below.

Texture and Scent
This lightweight, unscented white lotion with shimmery particles blends out wonderfully and does not blur pores. It leaves skin feeling velvety and moisturized and gives a smooth base to apply make up. Although i have an oily skin, I do not consider the glitters as a big issue as they are very subtle and not overpowering nor obvious especially if you layer foundation on top of it, they will seem vanish into your skin. It gives a natural glow and dries quite fast.

Longevity of Make Up
This product claims that it evens out skin redness - in my experience, it does not really tone the redness down, it is just okay. It also claims that it blots away excess oil, I agree with that. It does but so so. I noticed that my face get oily after a few hours using it (especially in outdoor) but better or less oily than when i do not have a primer at all. It does a good job as primer which is prolongs the wear of make up.

Application
Apply it before foundation. 1 pump is enough for the entire face and blend it out using foundation brush or if you prefer fingers make sure that yours are clean.

Pros
  • Fragrance free
  • It blends out easily
  • It dries fast
  • It smooths skin, makes skin a perfect canvas to apply make up
  • Travel friendly

Cons
  • It has no SPF
  • Oil control is so so
  • Opaque bottle

Conclusion
MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage is a primer which creates a silky smooth skin as a perfect base for make up application. It enhances staying power of make up.

Not recommended for
  • Who are looking for primer which has brightening, skin correcting, or mattifying effect
  • Who are looking for primer with SPF

Price
US$30.00

What is your preference of primer? Do you like with or without any kind of effects such as brightening, skin correcting, illuminating, mattifying and so on? Have you ever tried MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage? What do you think of its performance? How does it compare to other primer products?

Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer Review and Swatch

Olla DDG,

Not everyone likes to use face primer -- i know -- but since we are living in a tropical humid country i think this step can not be skipped because the primer is the key for your make up to stay longer. It provides a layer to prevent make up absorbed into the skin.

Today i got this nice drug store primer product to review from Revlon. Revlon PhotoReady™ comes in two alternative primers, which are Revlon PhotoReady™ Perfecting Primer and Revlon PhotoReady™ Color Correcting Primer, which I think it is not necessary to choose Revlon PhotoReady™ Color Correcting Primer if your skin tone is even and if you have redness as long as it is fine - not like lobster, you absolutely do not need this one.

Product Information
According to their website: “Revlon’s NEW primers are lightweight primers that soften skin and diffuse light to help minimize flaws and even out skin texture. It creates a perfect canvas so that your foundation will glide on more evenly and smoothly. Primers can be worn alone or under foundation, and are oil free, talc free, fragrance free, paraben free. Try Revlon PhotoReady™ Perfecting Primer to soften skin, reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines, and smooth skin texture and tone.”

Packaging
 The packaging

This product is packaged in a glass bottle with a black plastic pump. You can control the amount of product without over doing it. The problem that usually happens with pump bottle like this is the product dries up where it is pumped out and chunky but that is not a big deal.

Texture
 The texture

It is a lightweight whitish pink gel. It does not drip or slip around when you pump it out. I do not have the “perfect” word to describe the smell – well, it smells a bit like chemical thing but do not worry, it does not stick around for too long. It will be gone after you apply it.

Application
Pump enough amount of the product out from the bottle and apply it with your fingers or brush in the entire of your face. If you apply with your fingers, make sure that you already wash your hand before you touch your skin, it is to avoid the skin to get pimpled. Apply primer after your daily moisturizer and before foundation. It can be worn alone or under foundation.

Primer applied in my hand (left) and primer applied in my face (right)

As you can see on the picture above, this primer blurred my pores and dark circles under my eyes. It looked pretty nice before i wore make up. It seemed mattify my skin in the first minutes i applied but after a few hours, my face started to get oily and the foundation i wore looked heavier even when i wore it in indoor in the evening time. I tried this primer with foundation for oily skin and also foundation for dry to normal skin. It held up a bit longer when i wore it with foundation for oily skin rather than when i wore it with foundation for dry and normal skin.

Price
IDR. 170.000,-

Pros
  • It can be worn by those with sensitive skin since it is fragrance free
  • It does not clog pores
  • It feels weightless on skin

Cons
  • It does not make make up last longer
  • It does not mattify skin
  • It does not reduce the appearance of pores and fine lines

Conclusion
Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting Primer is not a brilliant product but it is also not bad. For oily skin, it does not do a great job to control the greasiness. It does not keep foundation last longer for entire day, but only by an hour or so. Since it is designed for photography needs, i think it is ideal if you wear it for indoor photoshoot which does not take a long time. I would recommend this product for anyone who does not want to spend money for high-end product, and for those with normal skin who look for primer which has not greasy finish but also not mattifying skin.

If you have tried this product, feel free to share your thought below ;)
